A bill is currently before the New Jersey Senate and Assembly Judiciary Committees that could change the business litigation and business law in this state - and for the better. The proposed law calls for the creation of a Business Court in the Superior Court of New Jersey.

Passage of the bill would result in 12 judges with expertise in business and commercial law, with the intention of improving the quality of decision-making in cases involving businesses and commercial disputes. It would also increase the speed in which those decisions are made, which would make New Jersey courts more "business friendly" and fair in resolving those disputes. While the scope of the proposed business court is limited, ti would allow Business Court Judges to not only to hear cases involving business and commercial disputes, but any matter which requires expertise in that area of law.

If New Jersey passes this bill, it would put the state in good company with other states, like Massachusetts, New York, Connecticut, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Rhode Island that have added these courts.
